A number of processes combined to create the Grand Canyon as you see it today. The most powerful force to have an impact on the Grand Canyon is erosion, mostly by water, ice, and wind. Other forces that contributed to the formation of the Canyon are the course of the Colorado River, volcanism, continental drift, and slight variations in earth's orbit which causes variation in weather and climate.
